Violence Free Maniapoto exists to educate and empower our communities to live free from family harm.
We are part of the regional family-violence prevention network that includes Waitomo Waipa Women’s Refuge.
Together, we share a common goal, to create violence-free communities across the Maniapoto rohe through education, collaboration, and advocacy.

Our focus is prevention and education, not crisis response.
We work alongside local refuges, iwi-based providers, community organisations and our statutory partners to deliver campaigns, workshops, and awareness initiatives that help whānau recognise, prevent, and respond to family violence and ensure the service you reach out to is knowledgeable and skilled to help
Guided by kaupapa Māori values such as whānau ora, mana enhancement, and community empowerment, we strengthen our communities from within.

Our coverage spans rural, coastal, and township areas across the Maniapoto rohe, from Te Kawa to Mōkau , including Otorohanga, Taharoa, Marokopa, Te Kūiti, Waitomo, Benneydale, and surrounding areas.
By connecting communities across this wide region, we help ensure that support and education are accessible wherever it’s needed most.

I’m Kayla King, the Violence Free Maniapoto Coordinator, born and raised in Te Kūiti. Having lived here my whole life, I have a deep understanding of the people, the challenges, and the strengths that make our community unique.
In my role, I aspire to support the Maniapoto community to become violence free by bringing people together, holding community events, providing evidence-based workshops for professionals, education providers, students and promoting positive, violence-free values. My work is guided by the needs of the community and shaped by what whānau tell me matters most. I aim to create spaces where connection can happen, conversations feel safe, and people feel empowered to be part of meaningful change.
As well as this role, I run a business with my husband and am a proud mum of two — experiences that give me a strong appreciation for whānau life, balance, and the realities people face every day.
I’m committed to strengthening community connections and welcome opportunities to connect, collaborate, and support work that contributes to a violence-free Maniapoto.
